KIWI Kids
Kids International Wellness Initiative
With staggering statistics of childhood obesity and alarming rates of "Type II" diabetes in children, the South Washington County Schools Community Education staff teamed with the Wellness Collaborative of Woodbury, MN and decided to do something about educating our children, parents and grandparents on what they can do to make intentional changes in their lifestyles. The outcomes could not only change how they feel and act, but they could help other children across the globe with an opposite problem…starvation.
Throughout this program, students track their wellness goals and earn token coins for their accumulated points. Tokens are converted to money, through separate fund raising, which is then donated to the New Hope for Africa Orphanage in Uganda to provide food for the children.
A curriculum was created and partners from across the community pulled together to create KIWI!
K….. Kick it Up – Encouraging children to strive for 60 minutes of exercise every day.
